Last night I changed the primary resolvers for the server over from my datacenter's resolvers to those of Google's fairly new public DNS service. This was done due to test the waters of the service and to get a feel for any speed enhancements that may be available.
With this enabled the server will be able to complete DNS lookups faster as it is on Google's backbone with constantly updating data. Because everything is cached the service checks when the TTL of each and every domain reaches 0 and has the updated information already on hand. There is no more live checking for the correct IP address.
What that means to you? If you have any scripts that need to refer to exterior domains or when you go to emails someone the time spent checking to see what server hosts this has already been done. It is a much more efficient system then what is currently in place at the majority of the world's datacenters.
